OBITUARY ~ WILLIAM VAUGHN MARLER
William Vaughn "Bill" MARLER, the son of Joseph A. and G. (HATHAWAY) MARLER was born March 29, 1916, at Tingley,
Iowa, and departed this life Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the
age of 83 years, 11 months and 8 days.
He received his education in the rural schools and graduated from Tingley
He moved to the Armstrong [Iowa] area prior to World War II and served in the United States Army
in Europe, England and [illegible] during World War II. On November 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to Wilma M.
THACKREY of Armstrong at Spencer, Iowa.
Bill worked for Byrl HORSWELL for a number of years before he went
to work at the Arts Way Manufacturing Company, where he worked for more than twenty years. Following his retirement,
Bill and Wilma drove [a] truck for Arts Way and traveled throughout the United States. He has been a resident of
the Valley W___ Center since December of 1999.
He was a lifetime member of the Armstrong V.F.W.
Surviving Bill are,
his wife, Wilma MARLER, of Armstrong, Iowa; daughters, Billie Jo SCOLORTINO and her husband Dr. A.
of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Pamela PEDERSON and her husband of
of Ledyard, Iowa; Terri COX and her husband, Terry; Mary Lou BUTTREY of Gilbert, Arizona; eleven grandchildren, Jeff
MILLER; Tim MILLER, Katie McCOY, Luke PEDERSON, Dan DALUEG; Andrew PEDERSEN; Justin COX; Katrina COX, Joshua
COX, Danielle FLORES; Taylor BUTTREY; ten great-grandchildnren, two sisters, Vira WILSON and her husband Woodrow
and, Thelma WHITSON of Creston, Iowa; and one brother [illegible]
MARLER and his wife, Helen, of Creston.
Bill has been preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Armstrong, Iowa,
with Pastor Dan MILLER officiating. Music was provided by Noreen MILLER who sang "No More Tears in Heaven" and
"How Great Thou Art," accompanied by Glenn HENRICKSEN at the organ.
Casketbearers were Justin COX, Joshua COX,
Luke PEDERSEN, Andy PEDERSEN, Dan DALUEG and Kim BENSON.
Interment was made at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong,
Iowa. Military graveside rites were provided by the V.F.W. Post of Armstrong.
