OBITUARY ~ MELVIN D. MANNING

WEST DES MOINES - Melvin D. Manning, 79, 100 Rimrock Dr., West Des Moines, former Fairfield resident, died of cancer Thursday, Aug. 13, 1992, at Des Moines General Hospital.

The body will be cremated. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westover Funeral Home with burial later at Mount Ayr. Visitation is open. Family visitation is from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to First Baptist Church of Des Moines and the West Des Moines Lions Club.

Manning was born in Libertyville. He lived in Fairfield from 1953 to 1961, when he moved to West Des Moines. He worked at Valley Hardware for 31 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Des Moines, West Des Moines Lions Club, of which he was a past president, and Iowa Lions Club, of which he was a past secretary-treasurer.

Surviving are his wife, Lila; a son, Larry of Grinnell; a daughter, Phyllis Gillaspie of Des Moines; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Freda Manning of Fairfield.
