OBITUARY ~ EDITH MAY (PETERSON) LOUTZENHISER
Edith May LOUTZENHISER, daughter of Swedish immigrant parents, Melkar and Mary OLANDER PETERSON, was born March 11, 1914
near Morton Mills, Iowa. She was the ninth child of 10. After the death of her faterh, the family moved to Villisca,
Iowa. She graduated from Villisca high school in 1932. At a young age she joined the Villisca Methodist Church.
On November 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to J. Warden LOUTZENHISER of Blockton, Iowa. After living on several
farms in the area, they purchased a fram south of Blockton and remained until the death of Warden in September of
1985. To this union were born two daughters, Linda A. SWANSON of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Sandra L. LOUTZENHISER of
Her grandchildren, John Douglas SWANSOn of Lowell, Michigan, along with her great-grandson, Evan
John SWANSON, always brought a big smile on her face. Doug, as he is known, spent his summers on the farm keeping his
Upon retirement, winters were sepnt in Brownsville, Texas for 31 years. Going to Texas became
another home with lots of great friends.
Edith was a 64-year member of Eastern Star. She served as treasurer of the
Blockton Chapter for 25 years. She is one of the last remaining members of the Laugh A Lot Bridge Club. She loved
gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Edith passed away Friday night, July 20, 2007, at the
Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Michael
R. SWANSON; five brothers and three sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda and Sandra; her
grandson, J. DOug (Dawne) SWANSON; great-grandson Evan SWANSON; granddaughter, Brandie BARNES; sister, Peggy DICKINSON
of Arleta, California; sister-in-law, Idalee BROWN of Marysville, Missouri; brother-in-law, Robert (Sharon) LOUTZENHISER
of Villisca, Iowa; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 2007, at the
Blockton Christian Church with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations to the Blockton Christian Church or a charity of your choice.
Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Bedford
was in charge of arrangements.
Edith will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend
who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
