OBITUARY ~ MYRTELLE L. LILES

Myrtelle Louise Liles was born January 15, 1921 in Union County, Iowa, and passed away December 31, 1989, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 15 days.

She was the eldest of nine children born to Jay and Opal Hazen Liles. She lived her youth in Union and Ringgold Counties.

In the spring of 1940 she graduated from Mount Ayr High School and in the fall accompanied her aunt and uncle, John A. and Vivian Carter, to Washington State. She remained in their home, caring for them until the death of her aunt in 1965, when at that time she and her uncle returned to Iowa and made their home in Afton. After the death of her uncle, John A. Carter, in 1976, she remained in the home. On Saturday, December 30, her family helped her move into Regency Park in Creston, where she died the next day, December 31, 1989.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Left to mourn her passing are four sisters -- Mrs. Lorraine Reasoner and husband Daughn and Mrs. June Rinehart and husband Bill of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Mrs. Iola Wernli and husband LeRoy of Perry, Iowa, and Mrs. Donna Pickens and husband Earl of Cherokee, Iowa; three brothers -- George E. Liles and wife Shirley of Norwalk, Iowa, Robert D. Liles and wife Anne of Bloomington, Illinois and Ronald Jay Liles and wife Sue of Des Moines, Iowa; 19 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews, plus a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Tunnicliff of the United Methodist Church of Afton, at the Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home on Wednesday morning, January 3, 1990.

Casketbearers were Bill Booth, Wayne Crittenden, Edward Hightshoe, Bob Moore, Jerry Sobotka and Dennis Wernli.

Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Pearl Booth, Mrs. Iva Crittenden, Mrs. Lois Crittenden, Mrs. Evelyn Driskill, Paul and Lois Miller and Mrs. Persus Zuber. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton, Iowa.

A memorial was established for the Greater Community Home Care.
