Mount Ayr Record News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ HOMER L. LAY.

Homer Luther LAY, eldest son of Luther and Sarah IRVING LAY, was born August 5, 1879, on a farm north of Mount Ayr and passed away October 11, 1969, in the University Hospitals in Iowa city at the age of 90 years, two months and six days.

He was the last member of a family of nine children, four brothers and four sisters having preceded him in death.

On February 26, 1908, he was united in marriage with Anna PRATT and of this union were born three children - Clark, Wilbur and Blanch Elizabeth, who died in infancy. They were privileged to maintain their own home for over 60 years. Due to failing health, the last year and a half were spent in the Sunny Slope Nursing Home.

In early manhood, he accepted Christ as his Saviour and joined the Hickory Grove Advent Christian church. He was faithful and active in the church as long as health permitted.

Beside his widow, Anna, he is survived by his two sons and their wives - Clark and Florence LAY of Pasadena, Calif., and Wilbur and Madelyn LAY of Kellerton; grandchildren and great-grandchildren - Kenneth and Anita LAY, Douglas and Marla of Schenectady, N.Y.; Robert and Arlene LAY, Debbie and Robbie of Kingsport, Tenn.; David LAY of Riverdale, Md.; Steven and Paul LAY of Pasadena; Linda and Ron LANDIS of St. Joseph, Mo. and Mary Lynette LAY of Kellerton; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. John LAY and Mrs. F. E. BOYCE of West Des Moines; six nieces; two nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held October 13 from the Hickory Grove Church, conducted by the Rev. Dennis NEAL. Music was provided by David ALLEN, vocalist, and Mrs. David ALLEN, pianist. Mrs. Ron LANDIS and Mary Lynette LAY had charge of the flowers and casket bearers were Kenneth LAY, Paul G. LAY, Robert LAY, Dean SHIELDS, Paul LAY and Neil JOHNSTON. Interment was made at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
