OBITUARY ~ GLADYS FERN (SHORT) LONG

Gladys Fern Short, eldest daughter of John and Floy Short, was born March 27, 1898, on the old Short homestead, near Conway Crossing now known as Merle Junction. She died February 9, 1938, at the age of thirty-nine years, 10 months and 12 days.

Her entire life was spent in the vicinity of Clearfield, except the past two years when she lived on a farm near Kent.

In the year 1915 she united with the Calvary M. E. church and on Dec. 6, 1916, she was united in marriage to Wilbert B. Long. Soon after her marriage she transferred her church membership to the United Presbyterian church of Clearfield.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Leroy and Darrell, also by her father, mother and two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Beck of Lenox, and Mrs. Delpha Bell of Carlisle. She was preceded in death by an infant son about seven years ago.

Her most outstanding characteristic was a sunny disposition and a sweet thoughtfulness for the welfare of others, and a desire to be helpful wherever and whenever she could. Her patience during her last illness was remarkable.

Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church in Clearfield, Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Mr. McKinsey, pastor of the Methodist church. Cousins served as pall bearers. Burial was made in the Clearfield cemetery.
