OBITUARY ~ CYRUS EDGAR LUTZ

Cyrus Edgar Lutz was born September 22, 1878 in McDonough county Illinois, the son of George Tolar and Ella Lutz. He attended schools near the place of his birth. He was converted and joined the Point Pleasant United Brethren church near the family home in Illinois. On December 23, 1899, he was united in marriage to Laura Jane Kimball at Adair, Ill. and to this union were born two children, Cecil Vernette and Vera LeElla. In 1903 the family moved to Kellerton Iowa where Mr. Lutz was engaged in farming. At this time the membership was transferred to the Methodist church. In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Lutz removed to Colorado where they have since resided. They had recently moved to Lamar to be near their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. John Spencer. Mr. Lutz loved his son-in-law as his own, and John stood by him in his illness and did all that human hands could do for him.

Cyrus belonged to the Modern Woodmen of America and the Methodist church. He was a devoted and faithful husband and father throughout a long and useful life.

Mr. Lutz departed this life on May 18, 1949 after a prolonged illness at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 24 days.

Left to mourn his departure are his wife, the children Cecil Vernette, of Osceola Iowa; Mrs. Vera Spencer of Lamar,; three brothers, Walter of Adair, Ill.; Orville of Astoria, Ill; and Carl of Los Angeles, Calif; three sisters, Nellie Bayless of Bushnell, Ill.; Tille Weaver of Smithfield, Ill.; and Hazel Smith of Peoria, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Bonita Friberg of Torrance, Calif.; Janiece Orbach, of Los Angels, Calif.; Delbert, Donna Lee and J.B. Spencer, of Lamar and Justin, Marlin, Gary, and Linda Lutz of Osceola, Iowa; a great grandchild Ronald Joe Spencer, of Lamar, and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Transcription and Submission by Delbert K. Spencer, October of 2013
