OBITUARY - ROGER EARL MORRISON

March 29, 1928 ~ January 1, 2011

Roger Earl MORRISON, 82, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at the Ringgold County Hospital. He was born March 29, 1928, on the family farm south of Tingley, Iowa, to Herschel and Macelle STEINKAMP MORRISON. He attended Eighme #9 country school until January 1941 and graduated from Tingley High School in 1945. He attended the Tingley Christian Church and was baptized there as a youngster. He was active in 4-H. In December 1950, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

On February 14, 1954, he married Donna Joyce FERGUSON at her family home in Tingley. To this union three children were born, John Roger, Rebecca Rae and Lori Denise.

Roger was a farmer and a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed driving teams of ponies and mules in area parades, and always had a joke or story to tell. He enjoyed going to Texas in the winter. He attended the Iowa State Fair every year beginning as a child. He was an avid high school girls' softball fan, and had tickets to Iowa State football games for many years.

He is survived by his wife Donna, son John of the home, daughter Becky and husband Tiger GORDON of Fayette, Missouri, and daughter Lori and husband Rich MERCER of Kellerton. Grandchildren include Tony MERCER and wife Ashley of Tingley, Alex MERCER and wife Tanicia of Des Moines, Andy MERCER and special friend Rachel APPENZELLER of Ames, and Matt of Kellerton, and great-grandchildren Logan, Angela and Tysen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions to the Tingley Christian Church or Ringgold County Fairgrounds.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., Tingley Christian Church with interment at Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Iowa.
