OBITUARY - WALLACE SPARKS MORELAND

Wallace Sparks MORELAND, son of Charles Benton MORELAND and Gladys Lucille SPARKS MORELAND, was born on July 29, 1917, in Bethany, Missouri, and passed from this life on September 11, 1987, at 3:30 p.m., at the age of 70 years.

He entered the service of the United States Marine Corps on the 26th day of February, 1944. His tour of duty included service in the Russell Island and Okinawa. After received the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle, he was honorably discharged on the 22nd day of November. 1945.

Wallace Sparks MORELAND was married to Ruth STARKEY, 44, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, on the first day of November, 1974.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his son, Charles MORELAND, his wife, Pat, and their children, Steve, Mark and Vicki; his daughter, Nellie SPENSER, her husband, Bob, and their children, Donna, Sue, Connie and Butch; his daughter, Anita HENDRICKSON, her husband, Dale, and their children, Connie, Janet and Brian; his son, George MORELAND; his daughter, Margaret THORMAN, her husband, Jim, and their children Robert, Gayle, William and James; his son, William Wallace MORELAND, his wife, Peggy, and their children, Jessica and Jeremy; his son, Donald David MORELAND, his wife, Debbie, and their children, Deborah Kaye, Melissa and Michael Davis; his son, Norman Lee MORELAND and his wife, Angie; his step-son, Cecil OAKLEY, his wife, Kathy, and their children, Beryman, Royce, Joe and Luke.

He is also survived by his step-son, Larverne STARKEY, his wife, Bernice, and their children, Melinda Ann and Monica; and his step-daughter, Helen BEEDE, her husband, Doyle, and their children, Dawn and Terry.

His sister, Helen MILLER, also survives him.

Funeral services were held September 14, 1987, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Pastorial Intern, Terry BEEDE. Music was provided by Mike GREENE, Mrs. Gary BICKERS and Mrs. Roger TRULLINGER.

Casketbearers were Al SIEVERS, Mark MORELAND, Steven MORELAND, and Brian HENDRICKSON. Burial was in Miriam Cemetery at Bethany, Missouri.

Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Post #2176 and American Legion Post #216.
