NOTES: Claude MOORE worked at different jobs as a young man. He went to St. Joe, Mo. about 1923 and
worked for the Burlington railroad till l926. (His sister Zeffie's husband Guy FIELDS got him the job.)
Moved back to Mt. Ayr and went to work for Bill FINCH in a creamery & poultry business. Worked there till 1936 when he bought
the Skelly Oil Co. gas station on the south side of the square. Sold it in l941 and bought
The Skelly tank truck, delivered gas and fuels to the farmers and stations. Sold in l943 and moved to Los Angeles where
he and Mom worked for Farmer Bros. Coffee Co. This company had a contract to build part of the wing assembly for fighter planes. Ruth Ann HOGER and her sister
Mavis were working there so this is how they became acquainted. Mom told them she had a son in the Navy and said when he gets back, maybe they would like to meet him.
Well he came back and Mom
had them over for dinner on Saturday night and they went out dancing. So thats how Ruth Ann and Dinty met.
The folks went back to Mt. Ayr in l945 and bought the same Skelly station
and run it till l947 and sold it and moved to Des Moines where they owned
a small grocery store on E. University Ave. That was sold in l948.
