John William MOON, better known as “Bill” was born in rural Blockton, Iowa on June 22, 1931 to George William and Guelda
Myrtle (STEPHENS) MOON. He grew up attending country school and graduated from Blockton High School in 1949. Bill gave his
heart to Jesus Christ at a Billy GRAHAM Crusade when he was 19 years of age. On November 25, 1951 he was married to his
dearest friend, Helen WINTERMUTE. They became the parents of five boys, one daughter, and 11 foster children.
drafted into the US Army in January, 1952. He served with an anti-aircraft unit in Germany. Upon his discharge, he and
Helen farmed southeast of Mount Ayr.
While there, Steve, John, and Don were born. In 1960, the moved to a farm near
Guilford, Missouri, where Mike was born. Later, they moved to a farm near Conway, Iowa where Mary was born in 1965.
While living on their much loved farm south of Bedford, Iowa, the Lord brought Bob to truly be a part of their family.
In 1984 they moved to Paris, Texas.
In 1989 the Lord called Bill and Helen to serve as missionaries with World Gospel
Mission. To date, they have served for 20 years as missionaries. They served in Honduras and in Argentina. In 1999, the
mission requested that they move to McAllen, Texas where Bill did a variety of ministries, including the remodeling of
the guesthouse and overseeing the completion of the first phase of Taylor Community Center. It brought him great joy to
receive the occupancy permit for the community center so the school is able to use the facility for classrooms, a chapel,
and a gym. Bill was busy with plans to finish the rest of the center when he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. He spent
nearly four months in MD Anderson Cancer center in Houston and his remaining time with his family in Paris, Texas. Being
a long time friend of the Lord Jesus Christ, he was ready to go be with Him. Bill expressed that at the time of home
going he would appreciate any memorials be given to the Taylor Community Center Fund for the completion of the second
phase. Memorials may also be sent to World Gospel Mission, PO Box 948, Marion, Ind., 46952-0948. These should be
designated for the Bill MOON Memorial.
