OBITUARY - JOHN "JACK" MONAGHAN

John "Jack" MONAGHAN, 52, son of Margaret and Tom MONAGHAN, was born May 2, 1923 at Winterset and departed this life Nov. 20, 1975, after a lingering illness.

Jack grew to manhood in the Winterset vicinity. He joined the United States Army in 1942 and served four years. Upon discharge from service, he moved to Mount Ayr where he was employed as a clerk in the Mount Ayr Post Office. He was the route man from 1950 until he was forced to retire in 1969 because of failing health.

On May 2, 1947, Jack was united in marriage with Betty HANNON of Maloy. They made their home in Mount Ayr and to this union were born two sons -- Barry Eugene and Michael Allyn.

Jack was active in the American Legion organization, the Rural Mail Carriers Association and was a member of the Veteran's baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Mary YOUNG.

Survivors include his widow, Betty; two sons, Barry of Jessup and Allyn of Adair; one sister, Mrs. Merle (Gertrude) HOLLAND of Norwalk, Calif.; three brothers -- Tom of New Orleans, LA., Bob of Des Moines, Bill of Mount Ayr; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2:30 p.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mount Ayr with Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home in Charge. The Rev. Father Joseph McDONALD administered the celebration of final rites.

NOTE: Interment made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
