Clearfield Enterprise
Clearfield, Iowa
February 10, 1916

OBITUARY ~ CLAUDIUS ROSS MOFFETT

Claudius Ross Moffett, son of George and Anna Moffett, was born April 14th, 1858, in Jefferson Co., near Pleasant Plain, and died February 2nd, 1916, at his home in Clearfield, Iowa.

In March 1876, he came with his parents and family to Ringgold Co. and settled on the farm which he owned at the time of his death, and in which he took great pleasure and interest for many years.

In his early manhood he spent eight years in the West, engaged in the carpenter trade and bridge building, in which experience he gained much information concerning the up building and growth of the West. After this he returned to the old home to spend his time with his parents, and remained with them during his father's declining years. A few years after his father's death, his mother's health failing, he made a home for her in Clearfield, and tenderly cared for her for several years during a severe and trying illness, showing his great love for her by this tender service. After her death he continued to reside in Clearfield, always taking a great interest in everything, concerning the welfare of all around him. His advice was often sought as his good judgment could be relied upon. He was a man of great strength of character and endurance. His courage never failed in anything he decided was best to do. Always lending a helping hand, with a smile and a kind word in time of need, he will be greatly missed in this community.

He leaves to mourn his loss, three brothers, viz., J. W. of our town; John of Bristow, Nebraska; and Elmer of Twin Falls, Idaho; and one foster sister, Mrs. Samuel Hogue of Blue Springs, Nebr. In addition to these, he leaves four nephews and six nieces beside a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the United Presbyterian church by the pastor, Rev. T, R. Aikin Monday afternoon, Feb. 7th, at 2:00; interment in Clearfield Cemetery.
