OBITUARY - ZOLA (THURMAN) STUART MILLER

Zola THURMAN MILLER was born May 10, 1899 to Josiah THURMAN and Alice BIRD THURMAN near Parnell, Mo., and departed this life April 6, 1982 in Des Moines, Iowa.

She moved with her parents to a farm near Redding, Iowa, where she spent her childhood. She was baptized in 1917 and joined the Hickory Grove Advent [church], then later changed her membership to the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

On Dec. 25, 1917, she was united in marriage to Cleo E. STUART at her parents' home near Redding. To this union three children were born -- Russell Floyd, Raymond Carroll, and one daughter who died in infancy. They farmed near Hickory Grove for four years and then moved to Kansas City, Kan. where Cleo passed away May 13, 1928.

Zola was married to Ora A. MILLER on Feb. 20, 1944 at Kansas City, Mo. They farmed around Mount Ayr for 38 years when they retired and moved to Mount Ayr. Ora preceded her in death in September, 1979.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for over 25 years, also to the Hospital Auxiliary, Gray Ladies and the Leisure Club. She enjoyed Circle and all church work.

Survivng are one son, Russell and wife, Irene, of Tonganoxie, Kan.; daughter-in-law Vesta STUART BIGSON of Safford, Ariz.; five grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Blanch BUIRCH of Creston, Gladys MINER of Prescott and Zelma MILLER of San Benito, Tex.; nieces, Alice MILLER of Blockton and Lucille JOHNSTON of Loveland, Colo.; 14 great-grandchildren, many friends, nices and nephews.

Zola was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter; son Raymond STUART; husbands Cleo and Ora; one granddaughter, Sheila MUSSELMAN; two sisters, Elsie FULLERTON and Birdie GLENDENNING; and two brothers, Roy and Earl THURMAN.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1982 at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by Pastors Phil and Doris KINTON. Music was by organist Mike GREENE and vocalists Mrs. Jim JONES and Mrs. Robert FISHER.

Casketbearers were Dean HOHN, Paul DRAKE, Bryan COMER, Linden DRAKE, Max McGEHEE and Walter McGINNIS. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery at Mount Ayr.
