OBITUARY - CHARLES ELMER "JOKER" MICKAEL

Charles Elmer "Joker" MICKAEL was born at Mount Ayr, Iowa, on July 28, 1937, the son of Hugh "Dick" and Clara (POTTORFF) MICKAEL.

He served in the U.S. Navy. On May 28, 1958, he was united in marriage with Carolyn GREEN and from this union were born two children, Chuck and Carol.

Joker was a mechanic and worked for Andy JOHNSTON Chevrolet and HARVEY Bros. Oldsmobile garages. In 1980, he moved to Denver, Colorado and was a diesel mechanic before retiring back to Mount Ayr in 1990. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and Ringgold Post #172.

Joker loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed when they came around to hear of his adventures, ask question, play games, to fix a toy of some kind or just for a kiss and hug.

Joker passed from this life, at his home, on February 14, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Clara MICKAEL; one brother James; his father and mother-in-law, Noah and Cecil GREEN; one sister-in-law Bonnie REED; and one brother-in-law Bud HENRY.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving and devoted wife and best friend Carolyn; son Chuck of Mount Ayr; daughter Carol SWAINSTON and her husband John of Sheridan, Michigan; four grandchildren, Joshua SWAINSTON of Iowa City, Iowa, Brandi SWAINSTON of Sheridan, Michigan, Krystle and Katelyn MICKAEL of Mount Ayr; sister Thelma TIPTON and her husband Herman of Mount Ayr; brother Arthur of Mount Ayr; three sisters-in-law, Jeannette MICKAEL of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Gerry HENRY of Prescott Valley, Arizona and Aldean OVERTON of Des Moines, Iowa; brother-in-law Noah GREEN and his wife DeeAnn of Conway, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 17, 2001, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with Reverend Philip CAMPBELL officiating. Musicians were Nancy SACKETT, Mary TRULLINGER and Margaret BICKERS. Casket bearers were Paul GLENDENNING, Todd GLENDENNING, Jack CAMPBELL, Don STARK, Dick HULL and Lyle HOGUE.

Military graveside rites were given by Ringgold Post #172 American Legion. Joker was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
