OBITUARY - MARY LEE (THRAILKILL) VEACH MEYERS
Mary Lee THRAILKILL VEACH MEYERS, 79, of Des Moines, formerly of Mount Ayr, died June 7, 2005, at Trinity Center at Luther
Park in Des Moines from complications of a stroke suffered in March 2004.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The
Rev. Edward SHIELDS will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. Visitation will be 6
to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Mount Ayr.
Mrs. MEYERS, daughter of Charles A. and Myrtle (BOYLE) THRAILKILL, was born November 12, 1925, in Madison County. She attended
one-room Penn Township No. 5 country school and transferred to Earlham Schools in 1934. She lettered in basketball there
and graduated in 1943. She attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines before working as a secretary and
accountant at various Des Moines firms.
She was briefly married to Calvin Earl VEACH and divorced. In 1949, she married Loy Herman MEYERS. They lived in Mexico
City, Mexico, nine years, seven years in Arusha, Tanzania, and six months in Romania. They returned to Iowa and settled in
Mount Ayr where they owned and operated MEYERS Coin Laundry.
She was a volunteer for Iowa Department of Human Services and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. She acted as
payee, conservator, guardian and provided transportation for a variety of southwest Iowa families. She returned to school,
attending Southwestern Community College.
She was a Girl Scout/Girl Guide leader, Hospice and Mount Ayr Neighborhood Center volunteer, member of American Legion
Auxiliary in Mount Ayr for many years and served on the MATURA Board of Directors. She wrote a book, "Growing Up with
Charley" and series of articles for the Mount Ayr Record News on activities at the Neighborhood Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Terry Yvonne (husband Christopher) MEEK of Carlisle and Kay C. JENSEN of Rochester, Minn.;
four brothers and sisters, John E. THRAILKILL (wife Estelene) of Bethany, Mo., Carol J. (husband Warren) CLAUSSEN of Ogden,
Helen L. (husband Richard) HALLOWELL of Mesa, Ariz., and Wayne E. (wife Ardith) THRAILKILL of Earlham; sister-in-law Vany
MEYERS; four granddaughters, Sara FLESHER, Cathryn SATERDALEN, Jessica LAUGHREY and Jennifer NEWTON; and four
great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lynsey FLESHER, Matthew LAUGHREY and Dillon SATERDALEN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1987; sister-in-law Mary FRIESSEN; brothers-in-law Clyde MEYERS and
Neil MEYERS; and son-in-law, Wendell "Chuck" JENSEN.
