OBITUARY - LOY HERMAN MEYERS

Loy H. MEYERS, 66, of Mount Ayr, died at home on Saturday, September 18, 1987, of respiratory failure due to degenerative muscle disease.

Mr. MEYERS was born November 21, 1920, in Corning, Iowa. He attended school in Lenox until joining the U.S. Navy in 1936 at age 16. He was stationed in the South Pacific through WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he attended college at Maryville, Mo. and Drake University in Des Moines, where he received a B.S. in Chemistry.

Mr. MEYERS worked for 10 years at Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines in Quality Control and in the Compounding Departments. In 1961, he went to work with General Tire International out of Arkon, Ohio as a Chief Chemist. He was stationed 10 years in Mexico City, Mexico, eight years in Arusha, Tanzania and one year in Polesti, Romania while with General Tire International before retiring in 1978.

Mr. MEYERS retired with his wife to Mount Ayr where they operated the MEYERS Coin Laundry.

Survivors include Mary Lee (THRAILKILL), his wife of 38 years; two daughters, Terry Y. MEEK of Des Moines and Kay C. JENSEN of Rochester, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Sara MEEK, and Cathryn, Jessica and Jennifer JENSEN. There is also a surviving brother, Clyde, of Amarillo, Texas, and an aunt, Elfleda MONROE of San Diego, California.

Mr. MEYERS enjoyed encouraging youth to stretch their minds with magic tricks, puzzles and conversation. Memorial contributions will be used to establish a Loy H. MEYERS College Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services were held September 24, 1987, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Doris KINTON. Organist was Mrs. Robert THOMAS.

Casketbearers were Dan SHEIL, Chuck JENSEN, John THRAILKILL, Warren CLAUSSEN, Wayne THRAILKILL and David THRAILKILL. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Military graveside rites were conducted by Ringgold Post #172, American Legion.
