OBITUARY - KEITH McCONNELL
Keith McCONNELL, 77, of Mount Ayr died May 28, 2006, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The
Rev. Susan THOMAS will officiate the service. Burial will be in Benton Cemetery. There is open visitation after 10 a.m.
Thursday with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Clearview Home.
Mr. McCONNELL, son of Lois (DUKES) and Jap D. McCONNELL, was born May 8, 1929, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He graduated from
Shannon City High School in 1947. On Feb. 11, 1949, he married Alyce Marie COVERDELL in Tingley. He farmed and was a
telephone installer for Verizon.
Survivors include a son, Jack (wife Nancy) McCONNELL of Northridge Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Jean (husband Clyde)
SWINEHART of Creston and JoAnne KELLEY of Show Low, Ariz.; sister-in-law Karen McCONNELL of Las Vegas, Nev.; three
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son Tom McCONNELL.

OBITUARY ~ KEITH DUKES McDONNELL
Keith Dukes McCONNELL was born May 8, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Jap D. and Lois (DUKES) McCONNELL and peacefully passed
away May 28, 2006 at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Keith grew up between Ellston, Iowa and Shannon City, Iowa where
he graduated from the Shannon City high school with the class of 1947. Not long afterwards he married Alyce Marie, the daughter of
Johnny and Florence COVERDELL, of Diagonal. They began farming in the Shannon City area and here their first son, Thomas Gene,
was born in October 1949 and second son, Jack Dennis, in December 1954.
In 1959 the family began a long succession of
moving from Iowa to Covina, California; back to Diagonal, Tingley, Ellston, Mount Ayr, Iowa; back to Covina, California;
then on to Grand Junction and Craig, Colorado; then back to California, to the townsn of Reseda, Northridge and Van Nyus
where they settled long enough to raise their boys, Tom and Jack.
When Keith lived in Colorado, he sold insurance for
American National along with Jim FEEBACK and Gary BURGHER. He always remembered and talked about the fun he had driving to
and from sales. When he returned to California, whe worked for 20 years with General Telephone based in Malibu, until he
retired. He had the opportunity to work for and make friends with many famous people. He also worked on the communication
system for the 1986 Olympics held in Los Angeles.
In 1986, after Alyce and Keith retired, they returned to Mount Ayr.
It was always their dream to come back to their roots and live their lives in peace and love, surrounded by their families.
Returning back to Mount Ayr was their dream, but shortly after they settled down, their beloved son, Tom, tragically
passed away. He was a wonderful person to all who knew him and was missed greatly by Keith and Alyce and his brother,
Keith was preced in death by his parents, Jap and Lois; his wife Alyce and son Tom.
Left to cherish his
memory are son, Jack and wife Nancy McCONNELL of Northridge, California; grandchildren, Thomas Gene McCONNELL, Angela
Marie (David) LOPEZ and Keith Dukes McCONNELL; great-grandson, David LOPEZ; daughter-in-law, Karen McCONNELL of Las Vegas,
Nevada; sisters, Barbara Jean (Clyde) SWINEHART of Creston, Iowa and JoAnne KELLEY of Showlow, Arizona.
conducted at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Susan
THOMAS officiating. Musicians were Diane ENGLAND and Doug GREENE.
Casket bearers were Jim FEEBACK, Gary BURGHER, Charle
FLETCHALL, Leroy WOOD, Larry ENGLAND and Harvey PLOEGER.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe DUKES, Kenneth SCHERER, Roland
BUCK, Bob RICER, Lloyd DRAKE and Bill SMITH.
Keith was laid to rest at the Benton Cemetery in Benton.
