Decatur County Journal

OBITUARY - BERTHA BELLE STANLEY McCONNELL

Bertha Belle STANLEY was born June 18, 1881, in Decatur county, Iowa, and died at her home in Creston, Iowa, May 11, 1909, aged 27 years, 10 months and 13 days.

She was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry STANLEY and was the fourth one to be called home where sorrow shall be no more. One sister died in infancy and a second sister, Mrs. Emma LUNBECK, died December 22, 1896. Her mother passed from this life May 29, 1905.

January 1, 1905, she was married to Ralph McCONNELL. She, with her husband, made their home with her parents until June, 1905, when she moved to Creston, Iowa, where she resided until her death.

She became a member of the Christian Church at Creston in September, 1908. During her life she made her home full of sunshine and happiness and was a loving daughter and faithful wife. She leaves to mourn her loss a kind and loving husband and an infant son, Rolla Ward McCONNELL, a father, three sisters and three brothers, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

During her last illness she was a great but patient sufferer and seemed to realize that death was near and she would soon be with loved ones gone before. The funeral services were held at the home of her father, near Beaconsfield, Iowa, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by J. F. BROWNING who spoke words of comfort to a large concourse of old friends and neighbors, when we tenderly laid her to rest beneath beautiful flowers and beside mother and sister in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
