The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1922

OBITUARY - MRS. SUSAN JANE McCLEARY.

Susan Jane TENNANT, daughter of George and Susannah TENNANT, was born at Uhricksville, Ohio, June 28, 1844, and came to Des Moines county, Iowa, with her parents in the year 1856. She was united in marriage to Mr. Lemuel Rogers at Mediapolis, Iowa, April 9, 1868.

To this union there were born five children, Mrs. Sadie WEBB, of Topeka, Kansas; Frank, of Independence, Kansas; George, of Mount Ayr, Iowa; Lemuel, of Selma, California; and Mrs. Laura HEALY, of near Mount Ayr, Iowa. There also survives one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Elizabeth CARMEAN, Bancroft, Iowa; Rev. Robert J. TENNANT, of Indianola, Iowa, and George A. TENNANT, of Mount Ayr, Iowa. These are the remaining members of a family of twelve children.

Mr. ROGERS died in Mount Ayr, Iowa, February 8, 1844 (sic, should be 1884), and on October 29, 1888, Mrs. ROGERS was united in marriage to Mr. D. H. McCLEARY, of Diagonal, Iowa, where she has for the most part made her home. Mr. McCLEARY died November 2, 1917.

In her early girlhood years she gave her life to God and united with the Presbyterian church, holding her membership with the church in Diagonal at the time of her decease. She was a charter member of the Diagonal church.

Mrs. McCLEARY was a woman of good and noble ideals, setting forth by her life and example before her family, relatives and acquaintances the teachings of her Master and Lord.

Because of the high esteem in which she was held by her loved ones and friends, her memory will be cherished in future years.

She was a woman of sterling worth and made a strong impresssion for good in her modest way.

Her children and seventeen grandchildren rise up and call her blessed.

The funeral services were held at the home of Horace Healey, Thursday, August 3, at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. W. L. TORRENCE, pastor of the U. P. church at Mount Ayr. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
