NELLIE G. McCLANAHAN DIES - Red Oak

Nellie G. McCLANAHAN, 84, of 301 Nuckols, Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 1983 at 4:15 a.m. at the Good Samaritan Cener in Red Oak.

Nellie was born August 15, 1898 in Guide Rock, Nebraska to James and Gertrude LAKE. She was married on February 18, 1924 to Francis Howard McCLANAHAN in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Mrs. McCLANAHAN was raised in Mills and Montgomery counties, near the Henderson and Emerson areas. After marriage she lived on a farm south of Mount Ayr for 11 years, then moved to Afton, Iowa, in 1936 where she and her husband operated the Gambles and Ben Franklin Stores for many years. The past ten years she operated the McCLANAHAN Dress Shop in Afton before moving to Red Oak in 1975.

In 1918, she was the claim advisor for World War I Veterans for the American Red Cross in Mongomery County for 3 years and 2 years for the American Red Cross Regional Office in Chicago.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Hattie SCHAFFER of Red Oak and one brother, Mr. Carl LAKE of Red Oak.

She was preceded in death by her husband on August 1, 1965.

Services were held on August 6 at the Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel, Red Oak with Rev. Ron PETRAK, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemtery at Mount Ayr.
