OBITUARY - VERN E. MATHIS

Vern Edgar MATHIS, son of Phillip and Flora MATHIS, was born Dec. 23, 1892, in Harrison County, MO. He spent his childhood in Missouri and later moved to Iowa.

On July 23, 1914, he was united in marriage with Floy E[dna]. WHITE and of this union were born three daughters, Cleta, Oma and Donella. He also reared two granddaughters, Elaine BOYER and LaVon MINNICK, whom he loved as his own children.

He entered the Ringgold County hospital on Sept 18, and remained a patient until his death on Oct. 6, at the age of 75 years, nine months and 13 days. During his illness he was converted to God and was wonderfully saved and testified of knowing his Lord.

His parents; sisters, Maude and Dora, and brother Walter, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his widow Floy: his daughters, Cleta, Oma and Donella: Six granddaughters, Betty, Kay, Elaine, Ileene, LaVon and Sarafena; 18 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Garland and Paul; four half-sisters, Alberta, Louise, Norma Lee and Cordelia, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Oct. 9 from the Prugh-Dunfee funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. Eldon HARDY, pastor of the Pleasant Hill Assembly of God church. Mrs. Phillip GODDEN sang "Suppertime" and "We Shall Meet on that Beautiful Shore," accompanied at the organ by Margaret PENOC. Casketbearers were grandsons, Loyd PIKE, Larry HUGHES, Joe BOYER, Larry GARNER, Marvin SALTZMAN and Alan MINNICK. Burial was in the Payne cemetery at Lone Rock.
