Ringgold Record, 1891

OBITUARY.

Daniel Mathews gravestone.jpg Died at Beaconsfield, Ringgold county, Iowa, Jan. 18, 1891, aged 61 years, 7 months and 9 days, Daniel P. MATHEWS.

Bro. MATHEWS was born in Adams county, Ohio, June 9, 1829, and emigrated to Iowa in 1851. He was converted in 1849, and united with the Baptist church in Ohio; came to Ringgold county in 1867, united with the M. E. church in 1871 and lived a consistent member of the same until his death. Bro. MATHEWS held the office of steward of the church for a number of years and was faithful to every interest of the church. He was helpless for some time before his death. he suffered a great deal with rheumatism during the last few years of his life, but his hope of heaven was bright and joyous. All through his sickness he gave evidence of the fact that he was prepared for his home in heaven. His bereaved wife and three daughters mourn, but not as those who have no hope.

A beloved husband and loving father, a faithful Christian, a good citizen and neighbor, has departed. The funeral was held at the Chapel Jan. 19th at 11 a.m., conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. RICHARDSON and Rev. SHELDON, after which a large concourse of people followed his remains to the Olliver (sic) cemetery, where we laid him away to await the resurrection. The family have the sympathy of the entire community, for Bro. MATHEWS was loved and respected by all.
--GEORGE E. MITCHELL
