OBITUARY - DONALD DUANE MARSH
Donald Duane MARSH, 89, a longtime Pateros Orchardist and a five year East Wenatchee resident, passed away on Wednesday,
July 14, 2010, at home in East Wenatchee. He was born on December 8, 1920, at Mt. Ayr, IA, to the late Earl and Mary
(BIRCH) MARSH. As a young man, he moved with his family to Pateros, WA, where he graduated from Pateros High School.
He was married to Lucille JESS in 1941, and together they raised four children. During WWII, Donald served four years in
the U.S. Air Force. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, they returned to Pateros. He owned and operated an orchard in
Pateros, as well as becoming a Warehouse Manager for Neff Orchards.
He was preceded in death by Lucille; he was later
married to Betty SLATTERY in 1984, and they made their home together in Okanogan, WA. He was preceded in death by Betty
and continued to make his home in Okanogan, until moving to East Wenatchee in 2004. Donald was an avid hunter and
outdoorsman; he loved snowmobiling and water skiing, boating, fishing, motorcycling and the ocean, especially Hawaii.
He was a sports fan who was especially fond of basketball and followed the Gonzaga scores.
He is survived by his special friend and longtime companion, Loretta Lord of Wenatchee; his three children, Barry (Holly)
MARSH of Entiat, DuAnn (Harley) FREDERICK of East Wenatchee and Wayne (Julie) MARSH of Pateros; five step-children, Mike
(Diane) SLATTERY and Danny (Carol) SLATTERY, all of Henderson, NV, Murlena (Mike) HOUDAK and Re (Larry) REYNOLDS, all of
Walla Walla, WA and RaeJean (Randy) KELLY of Okanogan; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; his wives, Lucille and Betty; and one son, Jim MARSH, in 1999.
A Commemoration Service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at Heritage Memorial Chapel, 19 Rock
Island Road, East Wenatchee, with Pastor Kel GROSECLOSE officiating. Please sign in or leave a memory for the family online
