OBITUARY - MARY RUTH (BARNES) LONG MARLER

Mary Ruth MARLER, 92, of Mount Ayr, passed away on February 26, 2010 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr as a result of a stroke. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Rev. Skip RUSHING officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Grant City Cemetery in Grant City, Missouri. There will be a time of open viewing on Monday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm and the family will be present on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am.

A memorial fund has been established to the Mount Ayr Public Library.

Mrs. MARLER, daughter of Georgia PICKERING BARNES and Walter BARNES was born September 4, 1917 at Havelock, NE. The family moved to Albany, Missouri when she was a small child. She graduated from Albany High School in 1935. On January 1, 1938, she was married to Burl E. LONG. Burl passed away in 1964 and she married Jerry MARLER on June 26, 1972. She has lived in Mount Ayr since 1972.

Mary Ruth was an Office Manager with General Motors for 27 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr and the Order of Eastern star.

Survivors include her husband Jerry MARLER of Mount Ayr; her children: Edward (Peggy) LONG of Independence, MO and Carolyn (Melbourne) FLETCHALL of Worth, MO; grandchildren: Tina WILLIS, Todd LONG, Tara MIKESELL, Michelle (Fletchall) MAY, Teresa FRENCH, and Holly FLETCHALL; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth LETEUX of Springfield, MO; 2 sisters-in-law, June BARNES of Sedalia, MO and Ellen BARNES of Belton, MO; one uncle, Emery PICKERING of Worth, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
