OBITUARY - VERONICA MARY (HANNON) PINE MARKLEY

Veronica Mary HANNON MARKLEY, daughter of Michael Cornelius HANNON and Florence Agnes MIX HANNON, was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Benton Township near Maloy, Iowa, and died Nov. 21, 1982 at the Ringgold County Hospital at the age of 67 years, three months and one day. Most all of her life was lived in the Mount Ayr community.

She was educated at Benton School, Benton, Iowa, from which she graduated in 1933. Her marriage to Arthur PINE in 1937 was ended in 1944 with his death while serving in the Air Force in World War II. She was united in marriage to James Rodney MARKLEY in 1946 and he died in 1980.

She owned and cooked at the Midway Cafe in Mount Ayr and then worked from bookkeeper up to assistant cashier at the Security State Bank in Mount Ayr from 1947 until her retirement in February of 1982. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr.

Survivors are: her mother, Florence HANNON of Mount Ayr; one sister, Betty MONAGHAN of Mount Ayr; two brothers, Paul HANNON and wife Doris of Mount Ayr, and Gene HANNON and wife Barbara of Bedford; three newphes, Allyn MONAGHAN and wife Brenda of Adair, Barry MONAGHAN and wife Karen of Guthrie Center, and John HANNON of Bedford; one niece, Maria HANNON of Bedford; three grand-nephews, Brandon and Brett MANAGHAN and Tristan MONAGHAN; Kenny and Terre MARKLEY of Lamoni;and mother-in-law, Maude (Mrs. Earl) WEST of Mount Ayr.

She was preceded in death by her father, her brother Jack, and husbands, Art and James.

Veronica was happiest when her niece, nephews and great-nephews were visiting in her home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 24, 1982, at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home. A funeralmass was conducted by Fr. Jim KIERNAN, Fr. Frank CHIODO, Fr. Don DALEKE, Fr. Alfonso ERESTAIN and Brother Emanuel TOCH. Music was by vocalist Arlen HUGHES, and organist Mike GREENE.

Pallbearers were Royce DAVIS, Randy VARDAMAN, Curtis GRESSMAN, Jack ELLIOTT, Bill HAROVER and Lester HICKMAN. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
