OBITUARY - MRS. GRACE MAHAN
Loretta Grace GORMAN, daughter of Barnard and Nancy (FLEMING) GORMAN, was born
April 23, 1878, near Kellerton, Iowa, and passed away November 22, 1961, at
Mount Ayr, at the age of 83 years, six months and 29 days.
On May 17, 1905, she was united in marriage to Odis McCULLOUGH, and to this
union was born one daughter, Madge. They made their home on a farm west of
Kellerton until her husband was fatally-injured in a train accident on
September 16, 1917.
On January 20, 1926, she was married to Thomas J. MAHAN, of Mount Ayr, and
she resided here the rest of her lifetime. He preceded her in death on
January 9, 1933.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Byron GORMAN, and
a sister, Bertie BASSETT.
During her early married life, she and her husband established a Christian
home and were members of the Christian Church in Kellerton. When Mrs. MAHAN
became a resident of Mount Ayr, she transferred her membership to the First
Christian Church. Her daily life exemplified the teachings of the Bible.
For several years she had spent much of her time in the home of her
daughter, but always maintained an active interest in her own home and
flower garden. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Mount Ayr Rebekah Lodge.
"Aunt Grace," as she was affectionately called by many who loved her, always
remained young in spirit. She bore her suffering patiently and was grateful
to those who lovingly cared for her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Madge BROWN, and son-in-law,
