OBITUARY - LOIS IRENE (PRITCHETT) MACKEY
Lois Irene MACKEY, daughter of Ralph Forrest and Helen Lucille (CLOUSE) PRITCHETT, was born November 19, 1931, in Grant
Township, Ringgold county, Iowa and departed this life June 18, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, at the age
of 68 years.
Lois grew up in the Delphos community. She graduated from the Delphos High School fifty years ago.
In 1949, she married Raymond MACKEY of Delphos. To this union four children were born; Mary Helen, Richard Forrest, Ronald
Lee and Randall Dee.
They began farming in the Delphos area and in 1961, they moved to a farm near Clearfield. Lois was a busy farm wife, her
days were filled with caring for her family. In 1977, she moved to her present home in Delphos.
She was employed at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr for twelve years. During these years she also worked in the
Delphos Post Office. She was officer in charge at Delphos until her appointment as Post Master for Redding in November of
1986. She held this position at the time of her death. She enjoyed many lasting friendships with fellow employees both at
Clearview and the Post Office. Lois felt a part of the Redding community and looked forward to being a part of community
Lois enjoyed yard work, gardening, canning, quilting, and cooking. All of her family will remember the many delicious
meals she prepared and the fun times they spent together. The list of family favorites is never ending. She loved to
travel and was planning many trips after her retirement.
Proceeding her in death were her parents, brother Junior, brother-in-law Frank MASON, and grandson Robert MACKEY.
Survivors include daughter Mary Helen COCHRANE of Itasca, IL, sons; Richard of Clearfield, Ronald of Mount Ayr and Randall
of Minot, ND. Six grandsons; John, Justin, and James MACKEY, Daniel, Andrew, and David COCHRANE. Three great-grandchildren;
Anthony, Morgan, and Katelyn COCHRANE. Sisters; Eileen MASON, Marilyn JOHNSON and husband Theron, and brother Jerry
PRITCHETT, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and special friends.
Services were held at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Wednesday, June 21, 2000. Rev. Michael DRAKE
officiated with words by Travis JOHNSON. Deb CANNON, Mary TRULLINGER and Margaret BICKERS provided the music. Casket
bearers were Daniel COCHRANE, Andrew COCHRANE, David COCHRANE, John MACKEY, Justin MACKEY, and James MACKEY. Honorary pall
bearers were Tim SAVILLE, Dick SNETHEN, Donald E. STEPHENS, Lloyd Jr. STEPHENS, Tom KELLY and Theron JOHNSON.
laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Memorials are sent to the Redding United Methodist Church.
