OBITUARY - MABEL (GRIPP) PINE

Mabel PINE, 99, of Creston, formerly of Kent, died Thursday, December 21, 2006, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday December 23, at Stringtown Community Church. The Rev. Dan GOOD will officiate. Burial will be in Hopeville Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, 300 N. Main St., Lenox, with family receiving friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lenox. Memorials may be directed to Stringtown Community Church, Pleasant Valley Church, Lenox Community Schools or Lenox Library.

Mabel PINE, daughter of Grace Etta (SHAW) and Delbert Dudley GRIPP, was born June 11, 1907, in Pleasant Township, Union County, near Thayer. Mabel graduated from Thayer High School in 1924 and attended Drake University two years. Mabel lived in the Kent area most of her life. On December 25, 1931, Mabel married Alan L. PINE in Galesburg, Ill. Mabel was a rural school teacher in Diagonal, Lenox and Murray and substitute teacher in Lenox many years. She and her husband also farmed west of Kent.

Mabel was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Stringtown Community Church, was a church organist, taught Sunday school and served on many boards.

Mabel is survived by her niece Sandra HARRIS of Creston; nephews, Fred (wife Robin) MAHARRY of Alta, Grady MAHARRY of Lenox, Robert WALKER of Brush, Colo., and several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1978, sister Lucille MAHARRY, brother William GRIPP, sister-in-law Helen PINE, nephew Dr. Dan HARRIS and niece Mary WALKER.
