OBITUARY - HELEN LYDDON

LYDDON -- Helen Lyddon, 92, of Albuquerque died Monday, August 4, 2008. She was born September 20, 1915 in Stanhope, IA, graduated from Tingley, Iowa High School and married schoolmate Raymond VerPLOEGH. After he died, Helen met and married Ike LYDDON in Albuquerque, with whom she shared life for over 50 years. Ike died in August of 2002. Also preceding her in death are her mother, Gladys MILLER, who practiced pharmacy in Albuquerque for many years; and her sister, June BUNN, who remained in Iowa. Before her marriage to Ike, Helen worked as a model, a "Beechnut Girl" in San Francisco, and for Walgreen's in Albuquerque. During the Korean War she volunteered in a stateside hospital. Helen's deep commitment to service continued after she met Ike. She became active in the American Bible Society, Church Women United, PEO, and others. Helen served many years as officer and often President in most of these organizations. Above and beyond these activities she labored and was a leader at Monte Vista Christian Church, a youth counselor, and a Cub Scout leader. In her spare time, she kept a spotless home and yard and cooked gourmet meals for her family. She was still delivering Meals on Wheels well into her 80's. She is survived by her son, Jon VerPLOEGH; grandsons, Joshua Julian, and Ola VerPLOEGH; granddaughter, Miriam VerPLOEGH; and great-granddaughter, Ema Luz JULIAN-LORENZ. Memorials may be directed to Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333.
