CLARENCE LONG DIES - Creston

Clarence LONG, 72, who made his home at 1003 N. Division in Creston, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 1983 at Greater Community Hospital [Creston], following a stroke. He had been ill a short time.

Clarence was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Grant township, Union county, the son of Nathanial and Lottie (RIDDLE) LONG. On Feb. 25, 1942, he was married to Vonda STRADLEY at St. Joseph, Mo.

LONG was a lifetime resident of Union county. He made his home on the family farm from 1910 until 1974 near Shannon City. He retired from farming and moved to Creston. He was a charter member of Creston Chorus for 25 years, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Creston, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a former board member for the Shannon City schools, Union Co. Extension Board, and Farm Bureau Board.

Mr. LONG is survived by his wife, Vonda; two sons, Loren and wife Mary of Greenfield, and Robert of Exton, Penn.; one daughter, Mrs. Iris (William) OWEN of Clarinda; four grandchildren; three brothers, Jay of Portland, Ore., Allen of Mount Ayr, and Willard of Huffman, Texas.

He was prededed in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. The Rev. Dale CUNNINGHAM officiated. Casket bearers were Kenneth PETZNICK, Byron BILDERBACK, H. K. LORIMOR, Ray FOGLE, Floyd BLAIR and Paul COMER. Honorary bearers were Dr. John L. and Jean HOYT, F. R. PERSELS, C. G. PHILLIPS, ELizabeth CUSTER and Carl KLINGENSMITH. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City. The Coen-Beaty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
