OBITUARY - BETTY JO (BEAR) LONG

Betty Jo LONG, 63, of Tingley died January 23, 2006, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 26, at Tingley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian OLIVER will officiate the service. Burial will be in Oliver Cemetery at Kellerton. Open visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. A memorial has been established in her name.

Mrs. LONG, daughter of Eula Catherine (BROCKWAY) and Franklin BEAR, was born November 4, 1943, in Ringgold County. On November 11, 1961, she married Jerry Lee LONG. She was a truck driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie (husband Scott) HARDY of Mount Ayr; son Russell LONG of Dayton, Texas; two brothers, Donald (wife Darlene) BEAR of Redding and Ted (wife Bryce) BEAR of Ellston; four sisters, Shirley (husband Lawrence) CHASE of Drexel, Mo., Beverly (husband Charles) PETERMAN of Nevada, Mo., Karen BAKER of Story City and Eula Jean SCHRIEVER of Farmington, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sons, Jerry LONG Jr. and Vincent LONG.

OBITUARY - BETTY JO LONG

Betty Jo (BEAR) LONG passed away Monday, January 23, 2006 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, where she was recuperating from open-heart surgery.

Betty Jo was born at home on a farm west of Kellerton, iowa, on November 4, 1943, to Glenn F. and Eula C. (BROCKWAY) BEAR. She was the sixth of seven children.

She was united in marriage to Jerry Lee "Chip" LONG, Senior, on November 11, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa. Four children were born to this union.

Husband Chip, two sons, Vincent and Jerry, Junior, and her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving are son, Russell LONG of Dayton, Texas and his four children, Kayla Marie, Russell Junior, Drew and Tyler; daughter Valarie (Scott) HARDY and her three children, Christina LONG of Huron, South Dakota, Michael LONG and Andrea HARDY of Mount Ayr, Iowa. Also sisters, Shirley (Lawrence) CHASE of Drexel, Missouri, Beverly (Charles PETERMAN of Nevada, MO, Karen BAKER of ROland, Iowa, and Eula Jean SCHRIEVER of Farmington, Minnesota; and brothers, Donald (Darlene) BEAR of Redding, Iowa, and Ted (CRYCE) BEAR of Ellston, Iowa; 19 nieces and nephews and their children; an aunt, Doris CAMPBELL of Indianola, Iowa, and numerous cousins whom se enjoyed seeing at the Solomon BEAR Family Reunion.

Betty was always a hard worker with her last endeavor being that of a truck driver. She mand many friends along that road and especially enjoyed taking part in a program that involved talking to school children about her experiences as a driver. Health problems forced her to give up her driving career. That did, however, allow her the opportunity to become more involved in church and community activites in Tingley which were a great joy to her, particularly her time spent at the Tingley Meal Site where she had made many dear friends.

She took special pride in seeing eldest granddaughter Christina LONG, complete her education in floral design at Kirkwood Community College.

Betty had a unique personality and will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Tingley, Iowa, on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Brian OLIVER officiating. The organist was Susie MOFFITT. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Ted BEAR, Charles CASE, Dave MOFFITT, Scott HARDY, Darrell CASE, Allyn JARRED, Doug CAMPBELL and Art DAVIS. Honorary pallbearers were Donald BEAR, Andrew HARDY, Michael LONG and TOny DRISKILL.

Betty was laid to rest in the Oliver Cemetery at Kellerton.
