OBITUARY - JOHN QUINCY LOCKWOOD

John Quincy LOCKWOOD, son of John Quincy and Charity LOCKWOOD, was born May 17, 1854 in Whiting, Addison county, Vermont and departed this life June 26, 1929, at his home near Woodland, Decatur county, Iowa at the age of 75 years and 29 days.

He was the third child in a family of thirteen children and came with his father's family when a boy of fifteen and settled in Illinois, residing [illegible] county near Woodland where he [illegible] grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Lottie LENTZ December 25, 1879 and to this union four children were born: Clara Smith deceased; Jake LOCKWOOD, of Tingley; Johnnie; and Mrs. Alta PETTY, of Woodland. He is survived by his faithful wife, three children, sixteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Nellie DOW of Pittsford, Vermont and a host of other relatives and friends. He had been in poor health for several years and for the last two years had been a constant sufferer.

A kind husband and father has gone to his reward. Peace to his ashes.

Funeral services were held at the [illegible], officiated by Rev. J. O. HUMPHREY of Lineville. The very large attendance spoke louder than words of their esteem for their friend and neighbor. Interment was in the Lineville cemetery.

Transciption by Sharon R. Becker, December of 2008
