OBITUARY - ESTHER (MOFFATT) LEWIS

Esther LEWIS, age 87, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away September 30, 2004 in Pittsfield. She was born June 26, 1917 in Mount Ayr, IA, the daughter of Alex Grant MOFFATT and Elsie Rose, (nee HOLLOWAY) MOFFATT. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1936 and attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS in 1936-37. She was united in marriage to John R. LEWIS on December 23, 1938 in Des Moines, IA. They shared over 65 years of marriage before the death of her husband on August 10, 2004. She was a homemaker and a well-known herpatologist. She was Co-founder and Honorary Life Member of the Chicago Herpetological Society and a former member of the Manasota Herpetological Society. She will be remembered by many for the love and enthusiasm to share with others her knowledge of special animals. She also shared a love of shells with her husband and was a member of Conchologists of America, Chicago Shell Club and a former member of the American Malacological Union. She is survived by three daughters, Charolette AMODEO of Castleton, NY, Joan MAYER of Clarksville, TN and Elsie HOLLEY of Riverton, IL; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. LEWIS was cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Hope Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Ottawa University and may be sent c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.
