MADELYN KEPLINGER LAY

W. L. LAY.jpg. Bessie Madelyn Keplinger, daughter of Amy Myrtle Siemiller & A.B. Keplinger, was born in Blockton IA on October 9, 1915 and died in the Cameron MO hospital after a stroke on November 7, 1995 at the age of 80 yrs and 29 days.

Madelyn lived in Blockton until her family moved to a farm nearby in the Summer of 1920. She attended school in Blockton where she graduated in 1932. In 1934 her family moved to a farm near Maloy IA where she lived until her marriage. On Easter Sunday April 17, 1938 she was united in marriage to Wilbur Lee Lay. To this union five children were born Kenneth, Robert, Paul, Linda & Mary Lynette. For the 1st four yrs of their marriage Madelyn & Wilbur lived on farms near Watterson IA south of Mt. Ayr. They then purchased their farm near Ellston IA where they lived for the next 36 yrs. They retired to a new home in Cameron MO in 1978.

Madelyn was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of the Samaritan Sunday School class in Cameron. She was a former member of the Friendship Club near Blackmore Corner, Spurs & Hers Square Dance Club of Ellston, Gospel Singers of Allendale MO, Democratic Women of Ringgold CO, and a former Sunday School teacher. She liked to follow current events, do crossword puzzles, work in her flower garden & watch the sunrise. Family was very important to Madelyn & she especially enjoyed spending time with her children & grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1983, a brother Harold, infant siblings George & Elizabeth, brother-in-law Glenn Pratt & sister-in-law Neva Keplinger.

Left to mourn her passing & cherish memories are her children Ken & Anita Lay of Schenectady NY, Bob & Kathy Lay of Evergreen CO, Paul & Theresa Lay of Des Moines IA, Linda & Ron Landis of Carrollton MO & Mary & Roger Stephenson of Camereon MO. Grandchildren Doug, Marla (Chris Vaughn), Kathie, Deb, Rob, Tom, Shaun, Jason & Eric Lay; Melissa (Herman) Blau; Bryan, Rick, Jim, Ryan & Joey Landis; Kyle, Chad & Todd Stephenson. Great-grandchildren Sarah Lay & Laney Blau. Brother Ralph Keplinger of Maloy, sister Dorothy Pratt & sister-in-law Alice Keplinger of Mt. Ayr, brother-in-law Clark (Florence) Lay of FL & numerous nephews & nieces.
