Funeral services for Brian LAWRENCE, age 36, of Blockton, Iowa, were held Thursday, September 16, 1999 at the Blockton
Chrisitan Church with Pastor Scott MARCUM officiating. Interment was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Brian Dean LAWRENCE, son of James Dean LAWRENCE and Sharon Kay (JOHNSON) GROFF was born August 6, 1963 at Ringgold County
Hospital, Mount Ayr, Iowa. He departed this life on September 12, 1999 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, NE due to massive
injuries suffered in a car accident on August 26, 1999.
He spent his entire life living in Blockton attending Blockton public school and graduating from Bedford high school in
1981. He attended Southwestern Community College, receiving a degree in auto body in 1982.
On February 9, 1985, he was united in marriage to Vonn Lorine LOCK at Blockton. Three children were born to this union to
bless their home and share their love, James Lee, Lacee Lorine and Joel Patrick.
Brian lost his dad at the young age of six years due to a car accident. He and his mother Sharon were blessed to join the
life and family of Ivan GROFF in 1972, giving Brian a dad and sisters he didn't have.
Brian, affectionately known as "Harv," by many friends and family was an outgoing person, making friends wherever he was
and lending a helping hand. Brian had a personality only those of us who knew and loved him could appreciate.
Brian had found his calling in life as a correctional officer at the Correctional Facility in Clarinda, Iowa. He had a
special way with the inmates, receiving a respect not easily attained.
He was known across the Midwest for his talent of raising, breeding and training mules. He and his family enjoyed camping
and attending trail rides and various mule shows.
Brian usually was found each morning at the lots, breaking, riding and training mules, or on his tractor. It was an
unusual day not to see him riding down the road on a mule usually accompanied by one of his children.
Brian had a strong will to live and gave all he had to survive but it was not meant to be.
Brian was preceded in death by his father, James Lawrence, in 1969.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Vonn; three children, Jimmy, Lacee and Joel, of the home; parents, Ivan and Sharon
GROFF of Blockton; sisters, Elouise LONGFELLOW and husband Alan of Blockton and Sharon MASON and husband Mike of Houston,
TX; brother-in-law, Harold DYE of Harlan, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ronda MOTHERSHEAD and husband Tom of Bedford and Robin
Kernen of Bedford; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Brian shared a special closeness with aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will always be a precious memory to his family. We will always cherish the love he gave each one of us in his own
