WALTER LANTZ RITES JUNE 11

Funeral services for Walter LANTZ, held June 11 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were conducted by Rev. Walter ORTMANN. Mr. LANTZ died at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and five days. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

The following obituary was included in the services:

Walter H[ull] LANTZ, son of John and Susan (WHITE) LANTZ was born in Worth County, Missouri, Aug. 4, 1874. He lived his entire life, with the exception of a few years, in Taylor County.

In 1903 he was united in marriage to Mae Etta SWETT. To this union six children were born, one daughter dying in infancy.

He worked until his retirement as a bridge carpenter for the Chicago Great Western railroad.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 1934, one granddaughter, Norma HIPSLEY in 1962, seven brothers and sisters, and one half-brother, Jonathan VANSKYOCK.

His children who survive are Mrs. Elsie MATHENY, Blockton, Mrs. Stella EWART, Lenox, Raymond [Joseph] of Piedmont, So. Dak., Vernon of Redding, Gaylord of San Mateo, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. China [Fenwick] SCOTT, of Athelstan; 17 grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

He joined Church of God in St. Joseph, Mo., several years ago. He had strong determination to keep going and doing for himself in his failing health and declining years.

Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord LANTZ, San Mateo, Calif.; Mrs. Elsie OLDHAM, Van Wert, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles BLAKE and Donald, Atlantic; Mr. and Mrs. Richard BLAKE, Papillion, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter BLAKE and Leslie, Norwalk, Cecil MATHENY, Topeka, Kans.; Mrs. Ila LANTZ, Des Moines, Ia.; Bea ADAMS, St. Joseph, Mo.; also relatives from Lenox, Clearfield, Sheridan and Redding.
