OBITUARY - RUTH M. (SCHARDEIN) LAMB
December 17, 1923 - July 30, 2009
Ruth M. (SCHARDEIN) LAMB came into this world on Friday the 13th, of June 1915 and always considered Friday the 13th a
lucky day. She was born in Gentry County Missouri down around Hatfield. Her parents were Kelly and Mina (POTOROFF)
SCHARDEIN. Growing up a country girl between two brothers she learned at an early age to "whip one and outrun the other."
Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, growing up in hard times made her appreciative of hard work. No job was too difficult
for her to tackle starting at a young age to help with whatever work needed done.
She met, "courted and married" her soul mate Loren LAMB and they had three boys; Douglas Loren, Ronald Max, and Larry
Dean. They made their home around Ringgold County for most of their life, with the exception of a short time in Wyoming.
Wherever Loren was, his devoted "Woy" as he called her, was in his shadow, they worked, went to the timber, trapped and
fished at each otherís side. Ruth enjoyed her life as a homemaker; she raised a garden, and always had an abundance of
home grown vegetables and they enjoyed traveling around the country and even some foreign trips.
After a full day's work with Loren, she still had time to cook great meals from "scratch." Never one to sit around she
enjoyed sewing, making clothes, quilts and craft items. Being an active outdoors woman Ruth loved to grow flowers and
enjoyed any type of outdoors activities. In her later life Ruth found time to attend a college course in her eighties to
learn flower arranging.
Ruth was called home to heaven on August 12, 2009 to join her husband of 68 years, a son Douglas, her parents, a sister,
two brothers, a daughter-in-law, a grandson, and a host of friends and relatives who preceded her.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, and their wives Ronald Max (Marge) and Larry Dean (Sandy). Ruth enjoyed her
extended family which included grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her life was full of wonderful events and she lived
it with a great wit and sense of humor. Those who knew her will remember her as "one of a kind" and "a fading type of a
truly great generation." Always one to cherish her family private moments, services and burial were private as per Ruth's wishes.
Memorials are to be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Mount Ayr Branch.
