OBITUARY ~ RAYMOND HAROLD JONES

Raymond Harold JONES was born to Floyd Edward JONES and Kathryn Marie (COLE) JONES on March 2, 1920 north of Grand River in Decatur county, Iowa. Raymond passed from this life on October 19, 2007.

His early years of school were at Westerville along with his brothers and JONES cousins. The family moved to Ringgold county in 1930 and he attended Monroe Center country school south of Beaconsfield, Iowa through the eighth grade. He graduate from Beaconsfield high school in 1937.

His first job was as depot agent in Beaconsfield. Raymond was inducted in the Army in October 1941 and spent many months on Umnak Island in the Aleutians during World War II, being discharged in November, 1945. On April 14, 1946, he married Dorine PIDCOCK and they made their home in Beaconsfield for 61 years. he became a member of the Methodist church in November 1946. A daughter, Michelle, was born in 1955. Raymond ran the Phillips farm service truck out of Grand River, Iowa for over 30 years and also farmed.

He always enjoyed visiting with people as he went about his work. In addition to serving on the school board, town council and as town clerk for many years in Beaconsfield, Raymond also served on the Grand River Fire Department. Raymond and Dorine took several winter vacations to Texas, Arizona and vicinity. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed their activities (especially his granddaughters' musical performances) as long as he was able.

Preceding him in death were his infant son, Stephen Ray; his parents; brothers, Francis Maurice JONES (killed iN World War II) and Ralph JONES; sister-in-law, Alma (Mrs. Roy) JONES; and brother-in-law, Hugh PIDCOCK (and wife Marguriete).

Survivors include his wife, Dorine; daughter, Michelle Marie MOHLER (and husband David) of Lamoni, Iowa; two granddaughters, Amy Dawn MECHLING (and husband Ethan) of Des Moines, Iowa, and April Elizabeth MOHLER of Lamoni, Iowa; brother, Roy JONES of Leon, Iowa; sister-in-law, Barbara JONES, also of Leon, Iowa; brother-in-law, Elbert PIDCOCK (and wife Thelma) of Corydon, Iowa; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Beaconsfield on Monday, October 22, 2007, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rick HAWKINS officiating. Musicians were Mary Ann SMITH and Maurice JONES. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Homes took care of the arrangements.

Casketbearers were Ethan MECHLING, Darrel JONES, Tim MAY, Christian MAY, Bill HYNEK and Mike NEESSEN.

Raymond was laid at rest in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
