DEATHS IN KANSAS

BELLEVILLE - G[abriel]. M[arion]. JONES, 87, retired pioneer farmer, and one of the oldest citizens of Belleville and Republic county, is dead at his home in this city, after a short illness from pneumonia and other complications due to old age. Mr. JONES had been a resident of Republic county for 50 years and prior to becoming a resident of Belleville, for many years owned and lived on his farm one mile west of Rydal, later selling out and moving here. His wife [Hepzibath W. (DAVIDSON) JONES] died a number of years ago. He is survived by his daughter, Nellie, at home and a number of married daughters, grandchildren and other relatives.

NOTE: Gabriel was born in Trigg County, Kentucky on December 26, 1835, the son of Joseph Moore and Julia Ann (LANGWELL) JONES. During the Civil War he enlisted as a Corporal and served in the 2nd Illinois Cavalry from August 6, 1861 until he was mustered out on August 11, 1864. He was wounded at the Battle of Sabine Crossroads. Gabriel and Hepzibah came to Ringgold County, Iowa, in 1875 and resided there for eight years. Gabriel died on December 30, 1923, and was interred at Belleville City Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.
