Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ ANCEL W. JOHNSTON

Ancil (sic, should be Ancel) William, only son of Darrell and Lena MAIN JOHNSTON, was born October 5, 1925, in Mount Ayr, and departed this life October 28th, 1952, at the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines, where he had been a patient since May. He was 26 years and 23 days of age.

Bill, as he was familiarly known to his family and friends, attended the Mount Ayr schools, and graduated with the class of 1945. On June 21, 1945, he entered the U.S. army, and after serving in Germany returned to Mount Ayr following his honorable discharge on December 16, 1946.

He entered the restaurant business with his father in December, 1946, and sold out a year later to purchase the Firestone Store, with which business he was identified at the time of his death. His father preceded him in death on May 18, 1951.

On June 23, 1947, he was united in marriage with Dolores BURBACH, at the Holy Trinity church in Hartington, Neb. The home was established in Mount Ayr, and was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Kathy, four years of age, and Judy, two years of age.

Left to cherish his memory are the devoted wife, and two daughters, Kathy and Judy; his mother, Mrs. Darrell JOHNSTON, of Mount Ayr; two sisters, Mrs. Keith COLE, of Benton, and Donella JOHNSTON, of Mount Ayr; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Requiem High Mass was held Friday morning, October 31, at 10 o'clock, from St. Joseph's church in Mount Ayr, by the Rev. M. J. CULHANE, of Maloy, and military rites were given by Ringgold Post 172, American Legion. Casketbearers were Donald DAILEY, Curtis D. ROE, David IRVING, Jack ELLIOTT, of Benton, Frank DAILEY, of Creston, and Robert TEALE, of Des Moines. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery [Mount Ayr].
