OBITUARY ~ FLORENCE W. JESSUP

Florence JESSUP, age 90, passed away May 21, 2003 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, Indiana. Mrs. JESSUP had resided at the home since moving from Walnut Creek, California in 1996.

Florence was born on September 5, 1912 in Diagonal, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Alma (SOBOTKA) WILEY. She graduated from Diagonal high school in 1930 and then taught for three years in the one-room elementary school where she had been a student. She earned an associate of arts degree from Citrus College (California) in 1970.

She was married to Reverednd Dale E. JESSUP for 66 years and served as a pastor's wife inthe Baptist churches where he ministered in Farson and Iowa Falls, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska, Denver, Colorado, and Ramona, Covina, Leona Valley and Tecate, California.

After her family had grown, Mrs. JESSUP worked for several employers including the Colorado Nurses Association, the West Covina (California) Fire Department and the United School District where she headed the school volunteer program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers: Donald WILEY and Ellis "Ike" WILEY.

Survivors include her two sons: Byron D. and wife, Beverly, JESSUP of Concord, California and Dwight and his wife, Karin, JESSUP of Upland, Indiana; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred TURNBULL of Leavonworth, Washington.

Funeral services were held on May 24, 2003 at the United Church of Diagonal in Diagonal, Iowa with Reverend Karen GARRISON officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery at Diagonal.

Memorials may be made to the Tecate Mission, P.O. Box 1000, Tecate, CA 91980.

Indiana services were conducted by the Jones-Smith Funeral Home of Upland, Indiana. Iowa services were arranged by the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal and Mount Ayr.
