OBITUARY ~ WILLIAM MAURIS JENSEN

William M. JENSEN, 84, of Leon, Iowa passed away at Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa after a long illness, Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
William Mauris JENSEN was born June 5, 1928, the son of Axel M. and Viva (ALLEN) JENSEN in Kellerton, Iowa.
He attended elementary school in Ringgold County. He graduated from Leon High School in 1947.
William served in the United States Army from December 1950 to December 1952. He was in the 101st 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War.
On April 3rd, 1951 he was united in marriage to Evelyn A. BUCY at Fort Campbell, KY.
To this union 6 children were born: Kathy, Bob, Betty, Jim, Tom, & Pat.
William was a hardworking man. He did a variety of jobs over his lifetime. Carpentry was his specialty, but also enjoyed several other opportunities of employment. He loved working in his wood shop making various craft items. He was always ready to go fishing with his son-in-law Dennis or anyone else that would ask him to go.
William was a born again Christian and was a member & trustee of the Leon Brethren Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Leora DeVORE, brothers Dean JENSEN & Johnny JENSEN; brothers-in-law Dick MORINE & Raymond DeVORE, and mother-in-law Hazel RUSSELL.
William is survived by his loving wife Evelyn; 6 children: Kathryn HALL & husband Bill of Leon, IA, Robert JENSEN and wife Cheri of Humeston, IA, Betty DEEMER and husband Dennis of Leon, IA, James JENSEN and friend Linda of Lamoni, IA, Thomas JENSEN of Phoenix, AZ, and Patricia ALLSUP and husband Eldon of New Virginia, IA; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and several great step-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou & husband Joel FREEMAN of Grundy Center; brother Dennis & wife Margaret JENSEN of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Doris JENSEN (Johnny) and Doris JENSEN (Dean), May MORINE of Omaha, NE and Virginia MARTIN & husband Marvin of Decorah, IA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 20012 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa. William was
laid to rest at Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.
A memorial fund in William's name has been established by the family.
Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
