OBITUARY ~ RUBY JANE JENSEN

Ruby Jane JENSEN, daughter of Vernon Leo and Mildrede KING CANNON, was born September 3, 1937 in Osceola, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at her home in Bridgewater, Iowa at the age of 70 after a year-long courageous battle with cancer.

Jane started her education in Bedford, Iowa in 1942. The family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa in March 1943 where she graduated in 1955. She furthered her education by attending Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, receiving her teaching certificat, and then attended Drake University.

On February 13, 1961, Jane ws united in marriage to Bruce G. JENSEN at the Methodist parsonage in Fontanelle, Iowa. To this union four daughters were born: Sharon, Susan, Sandra, and Sindra. Jane and Bruce lived in Fontanelle until 1972 when they moved to their home in Bridgewater. Jane taught first grade in Fontanelle Community school until becoming a stay-at-home mom. Jane enjoyed puzzles, crosswords and Sudoku. Jane collected...everything. From playing cards to green glass she enjoyed them all. She enjoyed cheering the Saint Louis Cardinals in the World Series and never missed a Chicago Bulls basketball game during the Michael Jordan years. She was also very proud of the Nodaway Valley champion boys basketball team. Her grandchildren were the true joy of her life. She never missed their ball games, concert and dance recitals. She also reviewed and awarded (or scolded) all report cards.

She loved all seasons and liked to decorate for each one. She liked to garden in the spring and watch things grow through the summer and fall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald CANNON; her father-in-law, George JENSEN, and sister-in-law, Cheryl.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of Bridgewater, Iowa; four daughters and seven grandchilren, Sharon JENSEN and her children, Makenna Jane, Anna Elizabeth and Sara Grace, of Indianola, Iowa; Susan JACOBSON and her children, Rebecca and Rachel, of Bridgewater, Iowa; Sandra LOWRY and husband Ed and their children, Sam and Abigail, of Greenfield, Iowa; and Sindra JENSEN of Bridgewater, Iowa; one brother, Charles CANNON and Margaret of Mundelein, Illinois; mother-in-law, Elizabeth JENSEN of Fontanelle, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Andy JENSEN and wife Ione of Fontanelle, Iowa, June PAXTON and husband, Ben, of Greenfield, Iowa, Keith JENSEN and wife, Barbara, of Cary, North Carolina, Cecilia SCHWARZ and husband, Joe, of Griswold, Iowa, and Gerry CANNON of Calera, Alabama; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, January 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bridgewater with Rev. David CLARK officiating. Musicians were Ione JENSEN and Becky STUVA. Professional services were performed by Steen Funeral Homes.

Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, Rebecca JACOBSON, Sam LOWRY, Rachel JACOBSON, Abigail LOWRY, Makenna JENSEN, Anna JENSEN and Sara JENSEN.

Floral committee was Harold and Penny VEATCH, Russell and Becky STUVA and John and Merlene SULLIVAN.

Interment was at the Fontanelle Cemetery in Fontanelle.
