Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

She was born Irene Francis Meeks, daughter of William Pinkney and Velma Louise (Joseph) Meeks, near Cumberland, Iowa, November 6, 1919. Irene grew up in Corning as her parents operated the Adams County Home. She practiced the Catholic faith and graduated the Corning High School. She married Frelo Stringham June 9, 1940 at Rock Port, Missouri and to this union three daughters were born; Janice Ann 1941, JoAnn Irene 1942 and Kay Ellen 1947, She and Frelo owned and operated the Mount Ayr Curing Plant until his death in 1958.

In 1965 she moved to Creston where she was employed by Creston Community Hospital. She married Ronald Hinshaw, originally of Clearfield, August 8, 1967. Ron also worked at the hospital and after they retired they spent their winters in Phoenix, Ariz, until Ron suddenly passed away there in 1981.

On October 4, 1982 she married Carroll "Pete" Horton, also of Clearfield. They too enjoyed wintering in the south Texas area, until June 1992 when she suffered a brain hemorrhage. This resulted in her convalescence at the Clearview Home. Her recovery was quite a success until Friday, February 18, 1994, when she suffered a heart attack.
