OBITUARY ~ BYRON J. HOFF

Byron James HOFF entered this life April 26, 1901, and departed December 13, 1973, at the age of 72 years and seven months.

Byron was one of six children born of the union of Eva Lena LUCAS and Harry M. HOFF. He spent his boyhood and and young adult life on a farm near Ellston. He graduated from the Ellston High School in 1919.

He was married to Neva Belle FUGATE on July 25, 1922, in Clarinda, Iowa, and of this union were born five children - Bernard Edward, who preceded him in death, Gene R. HOFF of Fairfax, Calif., Gail Marie BEEDE of Shreveport, La., Viviene Louise FARMER of Boonville, Mo., and Verlyn R. HOFF of Northglenn, Colo.

Byron was engaged in farming for several years and spent the most recent of his working years in construction work. He was always well liked by his fellowmen, always a friend to all, lending help to others in their times of need - just as you are here today to help and comfort his loved ones.

He was an active member of the Kellerton Fire Department for approximately 40 years and in 1969 was made an honorary member.

Byron was a good husband, and father, and many homes are saddened by the passing of this man, husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all his loved ones and friends.

A son, his father and three brothers preceded him in death.

He is survived by his widow, Neva, of the home; four children, Gene, Gail, Vivinee and Verlyn; his mother, Eva Lena HOFF of Mason City; two sisters, Juanita M. HESS of Bay City, Mich. and Imogene CRAWFORD of Iowa City; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held December 16, from the Kellerton Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. M. J. WILKINS. Gregory FARMER sang, accompanied by Mrs. Weldon MEADOWS. Casketbearers were Sam MERRILL, Larry CAMPBELL, Charles GORMAN, Charles FIFER, Dean FUGATE and Perry WOOLLUMS and honorary bearers were members of the Kellerton Fire Department. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.
