OBITUARY ~ LELA MYRTLE (STEPHENS) HARVEY
Lela Myrtle HARVEY was born December 12, 1900 in Benton township, Ringgold County, Iowa to John Lindsey and Cathern Ann
(JARVIS) STEPHENS. She was called to her heavenly home on April 25, 1996 at the age of 95 years.
Lela was raised on the
family farmstead in Ringgold County, Iowa with her six sisters and seven brothers. She graduated from Mount Ayr, Iowa
high school in 1918 and then attended college in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lela taught in several country schools in Iowa.
On November 14, 1925, she was united in marriage to James Gerald HARVEY of Clearfield, Iowa, in Omaha, Nebraska. To this
union three children were born: Carolyn Elaine LUTES of Lincoln, Nebraska, James Marvin of Golden, Colorado, and Marilyn
Joan who died at the age of one year.
Lela lived in Lincoln, Nebraska since 1947. She was an active member of the
First Baptist Church for 48 years. Lela loved taking care of her home, lawn and garden. She was happiest when she could
be outside enjoying nature's beauty and sharing it with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived
by her daughter Carolyn, son James Marvin; two sisters, Ona KASTER of Des Moines and Gladys SELLERS of Mountain Home,
Arkansas; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and
She was preceed in death by her husband, daughter, seven brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services were held
on Saturday, April 27, 1996 at Butherus Maser and Love Chapel in Lincoln, Nebraska. Graveside services were at Rose
Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Pallbearers were James F. HARVEY, Steve LUTES, Stan LUTES, Bruce WOLFE, Brad POPPE,
B. J. POPPE, Gene POPPE and Mark Eickermann.

MOUNT AYR - Lela HARVEY of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Mount Ayr, died April 25, 1996, in Lincoln.
Services will be 10 a.m.
Saturday at the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln, Neb. [portion of obituary missing]
assisting with the services. Memorials may be directed to the Clark Jeary Home or First Baptist Church in Lincoln.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn LUTES of Lincoln, Neb.; son James Marvin HARVEY; two sisters, Gladys SELLERS of
Mountain Home, Ark. and Ona KASTER of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two step
great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, seven brothers
and four sisters.
