OBITUARY ~ AMELIA A. (SUTHERLAND) HARDIN
Mrs. Lee Hardin died at her home Thursday morning, February 11, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Methodist church, with Rev. J. C. Turner officiating. Interment was in Clearfield cemetery.
Amelia A. Sutherland was born in Shelby county, Indiana, May 4, 1851, and died February 11, 1932, aged 80 years, 9 months and 7 days. She came to Marion county, Iowa when 4 years old with her parents. On February 12, 1871, she was united in marriage to Leander Hardin and to this union were born 8 children, four of whom are living. One died in infancy and the others were grown up at the time of their death. They were Mrs. Cora Dean, Mrs. Ross Moore and Hugh Hardin. The living children are Mrs. Fannie Abraham of Ellendale, N. D., Sam Hardin of Aberdeen, S.D., and Wesley Hardin of Guelph, N. D., and a foster son Reece Hardin , who has made his home with her since babyhood, and who, with his wife, have been caring for her during her illness.
She became a Christian at the age of 16 years, uniting with the Methodist church, and she has been a faithful member ever since.
She also leaves five brothers: Wiley Sutherland of San Francisco, Lue Sutherland of Los Angeles, E. E. Sutherland of Seattle, Washington; and Wm. Sutherland of Knoxville, Iowa, and George Sutherland of Des Moines.
