OBITUARY ~ MARY LOUISE (RUSK) HAHN

Mary Louise HAHN, age 83, of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away on October 2, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mary was born on September 8, 1917 to Clyde and Lillie (OMER) RUSK in Gillette, Wyoming. She attended Mount Ayr high school, Northwest Missouri State University an Drake University, majoring in music. She had taught school in Gillette, Wyoming and Tingley and Strawberry Point, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines from Elkader in 1947 and had lived in the Des Moines area since that time.

In 1947 Mary Lou married Grover H. HAHN, who preceded her in death.

Mary Lou loved music, flowers and birds and was retired with her last position being the executive director of the Des Moines Y.M.C.A. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Women's Chairman and Altar Guild; PTA president at Byron Rice Elementary School and Roosevelt High School; P.E.O. Chapter IJ, past president; soprano soloist with the Male Consistory Choir; Reserve Officers Association Ladies Club, past president; Quester (IOA), past president; Chauncey Depew Study Club; and music director for Polk County 4-H Girls Chorus.

Mary Lou is survived by her son Dr. Grover and wife, Cindy, HAHN of West Des Moines; daughter Cindy and husband Peter WOLTZ, of Indianola; and grandchildren: Brian WOLTZ, Mary WOLTZ, David WOLTZ and Frankie HAHN.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 6, 2003 at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Memorial contributions can be made to the music department at Mount Ayr Community high school.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman rd., Des Moines, IA 50322.
