NOTICE of DEATH - HOWARD B. KOBBE

Howard B. KOBBE, 94, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Redding, died June 1, 2006, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Services are pending at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY - HOWARD B. KOBBE

Howard B. KOBBE, 94, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Redding, died June 1, 2006, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Services were 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, at the United Methodist Church in Redding. The Rev. Susan THOMAS officiated the service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Blockton. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Redding. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr, had charge of arrangements.

Mr. KOBBE, son of Thurza (TURNBULL) and Charles KOBBE, was born August 24, 1911, in Blockton. On March 23, 1935, he married Trula V. GOLLIDAY in Albany, Mo. He worked as a roadmaster with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He retired in 1974 after 30 years and returned to Redding where he farmed 10 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Redding, Masonic Lodge and Shriners.

Survivors include two daughters, Arleta (husband Glenn) TROUTMAN of Wheaton, Ill., and Sharon TORMEY of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren, Joel and John SEATON and Curt and Cherie TORMEY; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney SHAW-TORMEY and Jack, Marshall and Katherine SEATON.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife on June 10, 1988, four brothers and two sisters.

OBITUARY ~ HOWARD BERT KOBBE

Howard Bert KOBBE, the middle child of seven children, born to Thurza and Charles KOBBE, was born August 24, 1911 at Blockton, Iowa.

Howard met Trula GOLLIDAY and they married on March 23, 1935. They had two daughters, Sharon TORMEY of Parker, Colorado and Arletta TROUTMAN, residing with her husband Glenn, in Wheaton, Illinois.

Howard left home first making his way as a farmhand and a trapper, then starting as a section hand with Chicago Great Western. There he build a life-time career and in no time became a Roadmaster, establishing a lasting leadership and many friends during his 30 years with the railroad. After Howard retired from the railroad, Trula and Howard settled on his father's farm, farming for 10 years and later moved to Mount Ayr where he spent his remaining years.

Howard loved the out-of-doors. Hunting and trapping were his favorite hobbies. He was a member of the Shriners and the Masons. Howard was always ready with a helping hand. Howard was a member of the Redding Methodist Church and he participated in the many activities there. Howard was a great person. He had only friends everywhere he went and he was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a father who would take time to play with his daughters and he spent hours with his grandchildren, leaving lasting impressions on their characters and lives. Howard KOBBEE lived life to the fullest. He will be missed but he brought joy to many in his 94 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Trula on June 10, 1988; and his four brothers and two sisters.

Howard passed away on June 1, 2006. He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon TORMEY and Arletta TROUTMAN; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joe SEATON, John SEATON, Curt TORMEY, Cherie TORMEY, Sydney SHAW-TORMEY and Jack, Marshall and Katherine SEATON.

His family looks forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

A memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church in Redding, Iowa.

Services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Redding on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Susan THOMAS officiating. Musicians were Nancy SACKETT, Carol McCREARY and Barb BELZER. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Joel SEATON, Ralph KOBBE, Charles JEANES, George SAVILLE, Garry CLAMPITT and Rick BENDER.

Howard was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Blockton.
